Dunes, Mountains and Wonders
Here comes a new project combining drawing and photography in Dunes, monts et merveilles. as a tribute to David Hockney and his book: A History of Pictures.
It is a playful back and forth between mediums and could be described as mille-feuilles. The series was created when Annabelle d’Huart’s pencil drawings were transferred on to photographs of the sky printed on silk paper, which were then scanned and printed on a new support, before she drew on them again. This game of layers and superimpositions results in a paradoxically digital photographic body of work.
As with her sculptures, she choose a theme, in this case a wave, and harmonizes perception with the recurring form to display an endless navigation.
” Dunes, monts et merveilles” is also a homage to Gustave Le Gray, who, in 1855 began a series of large-scale photographic seascapes made from two negatives, one of the sea, the other of the sky, taken in front of Sete.
These pieces made him a household name in 1999 at the memorable Marie-Thérèse and André Jammes sale at Sotheby’s.
